In November, the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) and Pennsylvania Independent Oil & Gas Association (PIOGA) announced their intent to take part in a joint study researching the effects of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) is Shale production and related activities.
The study aims to answer questions and concerns about NORM. The groups will deliver their findings to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in efforts to “make sure that Pennsylvania’s environment is effective protected.”
Research will be conducted by the two groups with a great reliance on their respective qualified members. Comtech is taking part in the study in light of their Radiation Protection Program’s recent success. Comtech’s program involves the surveying of NORM in oilfields all related components ranging from sludge to equipment, as well as the composite sampling and lab analysis of waste to be remediated.
The study will analyze elements in detail and provide results with data and best practices to help contribute to safe and responsible shale development.
